You'll have the chance to transfer your learning into practice by completing three different field placements in a variety of settings which may include Sheridan's highly acclaimed childcare centres, before and after school care, kindergarten classrooms or other early learning settings. Our ECE program focuses on applying research-based theory to practical experiences that encourage young children鈥檚 learning, growth and development.

When you graduate from this program, you'll be eligible to become a registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE), a requirement for practice in the province of Ontario. Graduates may also continue their education in degree-level studies through Sheridan's Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership program or at other Canadian universities or abroad. As a graduate of an Early Childhood Education diploma (or equivalent, as accepted by the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario) with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater (average C+), you may be eligible to complete Sheridan's Honours Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership degree program through Degree Completion.

Entry requirements

For international students

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:

One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U) or

Mature student status.

English Proficiency Requirements

IELTS - overall score 6.0 with no individual band below 5.5

TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and TOEFL iBT Home Edition (DI Code: 9117) - overall score 80 with no individual section below 20

iTEP Academic - overall score 3.7

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English) online or in person - overall score 58 with no individual section below 49

Duolingo English Language Test - overall score of 105 with no individual subscore lower than 85

Cambridge English Test Exams (B2 First/C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency score) - overall Cambridge English Scale score 169 with no individual score below 162

CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) online or in person - overall score 60 with no individual section below 50

Sheridan EPA test - Listening Band - 4.0 Reading Combined Band - 4.0 Writing - CLB 7

Sheridan's ESL program EAP level - A minimum score of 70% in listening and speaking and 70% in reading and writing. General Education courses and Navigating Digital Environments (INFO) minimum required grade of 50%.
