What will I learn?

This two-year program equips international graduates with in-demand IT skills, covering infrastructure support, networking, and security in the first year. The second year focuses on advanced systems and solutions architecture. Graduates are prepared for roles in IT support, systems administration, and network security.

This two-year (four semester) program is designed for international college or university graduates with a strong academic background, who require additional knowledge in information technology and computer systems technologies.

The first year will focus on the practices and skills currently being used in support of the IT infrastructure. The second year will expand upon the skills in networking operating systems and security learned in the first year by adding systems and solutions architecture components as a senior application of those courses.

Graduates of Fanshawe's Business and Information Systems Architecture program have the knowledge and skills to become vital members of insurance companies, manufacturing companies, IT (and non-IT) consulting firms, telecom companies and small-medium-large organizations. Graduates of this program may go on to become business analysts, business system analysts, support analysts, data scientists, web/mobile developers, scrum masters (PM), mobile app developers, network administrators, cloud architects, system engineers, software engineers, IT managers and more.

Business Analyst

Be responsible for conducting market analyses, analyzing product lines and analyzing the profitability of businesses.

Network Administrator

Be responsible for maintaining computer networks and resolving any problems that may occur with them.

System Engineer

Manage and monitor installed systems and infrastructure for organizations to be in line with the organization's guidelines.

Software Engineer

Analyze and modify existing software while designing, constructing and testing applications that meet user needs.

Learning Outcomes

Install, configure, program and maintain IT applications (including operating systems, database management systems) to facilitate successful ecommerce transactions

Customize and deploy software securely to facilitate ICT operations in a small business

Debug, document and repair bugs in applications to ensure effective functioning of ICT operations

Identify, analyze and document the clients business and system requirements to develop relevant ICT solutions

Interpret, create, and present work-related documents and information effectively and accurately to ensure clear communication between end user and ICT provider

Write programs that communicate with other computers over a network

Develop and implement dynamic web applications using appropriate programming language, databases and data sources

Apply principles of project management to plan, track, and present the progress of an ICT project

Identify legal, ethical and intellectual property issues in Information Technology projects and propose strategies to address these issues

Implement personal and professional development strategies to improve job performance and promote professional growth

Install, troubleshoot, and maintain network components in a small business setting to ensure effective operations

Create ICT strategies for the successful planning and operation of a small to medium-sized enterprise

For international students

A Two- or Three-Year College Diploma, or a Degree

OR

Acceptable combination of related work experience and post-secondary education as judged by the College to be equivalent to the above*

English Language Requirements

TOEFL iBT: 88

IELTS Academic: Overall score of 6.5 with no score less than 6.0 in any of the four bands

CAEL: Overall score of 70 with no score less than 60 in any of the four bands

PTE Academic: 59

Cambridge English: Overall score of 176 with no language skill less than 169

ESL4/GAP5: Minimum grade of 80% in Level 9, 75% in Level 10

Duolingo: Overall score of 120, with no score lower than 105
