What will I learn?

Overview

The Post-Degree Diploma in Financial Planning builds your knowledge of financial planning, taxation and investing that you鈥檒l need in order to become a Certified Financial Planner. You鈥檒l take finance courses in financial services marketing, Canadian securities, wealth management and more. In your second semester, you鈥檒l create a professional financial plan using four of the six financial components you鈥檝e learned through your education. When possible, cases will be sourced from current clients.

According to the Job Bank of Canada, over 23,000 job openings are expected between 2022 and 2031 in Canada.

Get licensed as a Qualified Associate Financial Planner or Certified Financial Planner

Completion of certain finance courses (listed in program requirements) satisfies the FP Canada Core and Advanced Curriculum requirements allowing you to challenge the Qualified Associate Financial Planner (QAFP) and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification exams. Note that full certification also requires completion of relevant work experience as well as the FP Canada Introduction to Professional Ethics program and the Professional Education program.

Entry requirements

For international students

British Columbia secondary school graduation or equivalent; One course short of British Columbia secondary school graduation, or equivalent; Nineteen (19) years of age or older on the first day of the first semester of attendance; Seventeen (17) years of age on the first day of the first semester of attendance, and has not been enrolled at a school for a minimum of one year; Completion of a certificate or equivalent from a special needs program and has been in school for 12 years, or has received an Evergreen or Leaving School Certificate

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada or an equivalent credential from an approved institution of a different country.

Douglas College English Assessment

TOEFL iBT (in-person or online) - minimum score 83

TOEFL Essentials - minimum score of 9 (no score below 8 on any individual section)

IELTS - minimum overall band test score 6.5 (academic module only)

EIKEN Practical English - minimum placement of Grade 1

CAEL - minimum overall and essay score of 60 (computer or paper based)

Cambridge English CAE - minimum score 75 or "B

Cambridge English CPE - minimum score 60 or "C

Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 8 in each of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing

Duolingo English Test Minimum overall score of 110. Official test scores must be sent directly to Douglas College.

Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic - minimum score of 56
