What will I learn?

The B Comm (Gaeilge) has been introduced following demand from students for a programme that combines the study of Business and the Irish Language. This is a four-year degree programme in Commerce including the study of the Irish Language, allowing students to develop their language skills while gaining valuable insights into business and culture.

It is the ideal qualification for students who want to build a career in business or who simply wish to expand their career choices. A great advantage that students studying this course have is that in year three the programme is divided between a one-semester internship in an Irish-speaking environment and a semester studying at University of Galway’s Gaeltacht campus in an Cheathrú Rua.

All business subjects are taught through English.

Further Education

Graduates can take postgraduate programmes in all of the core business disciplines, the Irish language, education or translation. This course satisfies the Irish Requirements for students who want to pursue careers as secondary school teachers. A number of current students have also expressed an interest in pursuing careers in Conference Interpreting.

Work Placement

The work experience in an Irish speaking environment is central to the programme and is a continuous learning process where the learner aims to use the information and skills acquired in the first two years of the programme. The work experience will give the learner the opportunity to taste life in a real work environment and there will be a correlation between the work experience and the learner's area of study. Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge will organise the work experience in conjunction with Údarás na Gaeltachta. Údarás na Gaeltachta has 400 client companies, in various sectors – including biomedicine and pharmacology, ICT, niche manufacturing, audio visual and digital media, tourism, fish processing and aquaculture, renewable energy, food processing and arts and crafts – the students will be based in the Údarás headquarters or in one of these client companies.
