Other graduates have gone on to complete PhDs in the field.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants should hold a primary degree (at least 2nd class honours or equivalent, in any discipline), have an appropriate initial training qualification in TESOL, and have a minimum of one years’ relevant teaching experience in Ireland or 
overseas. The number of places on the course is strictly limited and selection is based on written application and interview. Please note, in order to teach in Ireland after your course, your initial TESOL qualification should be accredited or recognised by ACELS.

Applicants, whose first language is not English, should have an overall band of 7.0 in IELTS (with a 7.0 in listening and writing components).

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) administered by Princeton University:

A minimum score of 600 in the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT), with Test of Written English at 475 +; a minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with a score of at least 20 in each section.

Cambridge Examinations: English language examinations administered by the University of Cambridge: 180+ on Cambridge English scale (with no less than 175 in each skill and use of English).

Acceptable Examinations:

Proficiency Certificate, Grade C (i.e. CEFR Level C1 or C2).
Advanced Certificate, Grade C (i.e. CEFR Level C1 or C2)
First Certificate, Grade A (i.e. CEFR Level C1)

Pearson English Language Text: Minimum of 63 and at least 59 for each item of both skills profiles.
