What will I learn?

Overview

The MSc in Strategic Management equips students with the knowledge and competencies necessary to successfully run a business in an increasingly complex and digitalized world where both MNCs and start-ups compete and cooperate to face major challenges.

The Programme has been recently re-designed to serve the needs of companies operating in innovative, international, and entrepreneurial markets. Our exclusive offer includes modules taught by internationally reputable academics and ex-managers, such as competitive, corporate and behavioural strategy, technology and innovation management, strategic resource allocation, entrepreneurship and new venture creation, negotiation and decision-making techniques. In the summer term, students may also have the option to work directly with companies through a company-oriented practical module or to complete a dissertation.

Every year, this Programme attracts high-potential Irish and International students, often also with relevant work experience. In terms of academic background, it is ideal for students with an undergraduate degree in business, economics, engineering, science, law, as well as for students with postgraduate business diplomas. Applications from non-business graduates are also considered on a one-to-one basis.

What will I learn?

The MSc in Strategic Management is intellectually challenging as it requires students to learn and implement strategies during a range of selected courses taught by reputable international academics and practitioners. The course content equips students with some of the most relevant competences to formulate and implement strategies in global markets facing radical innovations. This involves:

  • A comprehension of management theory and practice in order to strengthen a company’s competitive position and boost its profitability.
  • Insight into the strategies used by companies across various sectors and the factors contributing to their success or failure.
  • The knowledge required to make accurate appraisals of the planning and controlling systems of firms, and design alternative ones where necessary.
  • The frameworks and critical skills required to acquire and allocate financial and non-financial resources within the context of a strategic initiative.

Entry requirements

For international students

The normal requirement is a second class honours degree, grade one (2:1). You should check the specific entry requirements for the course that you intend to apply for. Some courses may require a higher standard for entry.

A minimum overall score of 7.0 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version. The non-academic version is not accepted. A minimum score of 100 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (IBT) with a score of at least 20 in each section; Cambridge Examinations: English language examinations administered by the University of Cambridge: 185+ on Cambridge English scale (with no less than 175 in each skill and use of English). Acceptable Examinations: Proficiency Certificate, Grade C (i.e. CEFR Level C1 or C2); Advanced Certificate, Grade C (i.e. CEFR Level C1 or C2); Pearson English Language Text: Minimum of 65 and at least 59 for each item. English Test for Academic and Professional Purposes (ETAPP): Grade C1 (i.e. CEFR Level C1 or C2); Trinity ISE: Trinity ISE IV (C2) with at least merit in each skill category.
