About this course

What will I learn?

This practical, environmental science course includes field trips to some beautiful and remote parts of New Zealand. There, you'll look at the challenges facing New Zealand's clean, green image. What needs to be done to protect our world-famous environmentYoull learn about the biology and ecology of living species and habitats.Out in the field, you'll develop surveying skills in remote areas while gaining real life hands-on experience. Plus, you'll explore conservation issues and examine strategies to protect the environment.Environmental sustainability is also a focus. The knowledge gained from the course will help you to create sustainable practices within New Zealand.This course is designed as an entry to the Level 6 diploma, where you'll gain more advanced skills and knowledge. It includes a focus on research design and environmental and ecological reporting. Youll also choose elective papers in biosecurity or aquaculture.

Entry requirements

For international students

a minimum of 42 credits at NCEA Level 3 or equivalent (suggested subjects are English, Mathematics and Biology/Sciences)

If you do not meet the academic requirements you may be given special admission if Toi Ohomai staff are satisfied you are capable of successfully completing the requirements.

Special admission may also apply for applicants over 20 years.

English Language requirements:

IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0; TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests; PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36.
