What will I learn?

On this course, you will:

  • gain an understanding of the main aspects of risk management in business
  • apply mathematics to financial risk description, analysis, and quantification
  • experience Sussex’s strong foundation of interdisciplinary research

The MSc draws on expertise from industry professionals, so you’ll gain the knowledge and skills to succeed in the fast-paced corporate world. Topics covered include quantitative analysis, regulation, implementation, and management structure. You’ll have a choice between practice- and research-oriented study and can explore further topics including programming or statistics.

You will learn from established specialists in both the Department of Mathematics and the University of Sussex Business School.

Entry requirements

For international students

Degree requirements: You should normally have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above. Subject-specific requirements: Your qualification should have a reasonably high mathematics content, demonstrating knowledge in calculus, probability, and statistics, and ideally some programming. You are suited to this course if your qualification is in mathematics, finance, economics, business, science, engineering, or computing. You may also be considered for the course if you have other professional qualifications or experience of equivalent standing. IELTS (Academic) Standard level (6.0 overall, including at least 5.5 in each component); TOEFL (iBT) Standard – 80 overall, including at least 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking, 17 in Writing.
