What will I learn?

Are you a qualified midwife looking to learn about the latest developments in midwifery, and to contribute to original research that improves the health and care of women, children, families and communities In this highly valued Masters qualification you will be given the opportunity to develop and apply research and critical analytical skills to enhance maternity care delivery. You will study the latest theoretical and clinical developments with academics who are carrying out world-class research in the field of maternal and child health. Choosing from a mix of core and elective modules, you will be supported to build a stimulating and challenging programme of study that suits your particular learning needs and clinical interests. You will gain a thorough grounding in research skills and applied data analysis to support your role as an evidence-based practitioner. You will be encouraged to become a reflective practitioner and supported to develop lifelong learning practices. The programme is based in our Centre for Maternal and Child Health, and takes an interdisciplinary approach to research and providing rigorous evidence to inform policy and practice.

Duration:

  • Full-time: 1 year (plus up to 1 year for dissertation)
  • Part-time: 2 years (plus up to 1 year for dissertation)

Entry requirements

For international students

To apply for this course, you should have: a second-class honours degree or the equivalent from an international institution; a lower qualification such as Diploma in Midwifery may be considered with appropriate prior experience. You would normally be expected to have been practicing as a qualified midwife for at least one year; at least one year's experience as a practising and qualified midwife. If you do not hold a degree, your application may still be considered on the basis of your professional experience. If your first language is not English, one of the following is also required: A first degree from a UK university or an overseas institution recognised by City as providing adequate evidence of proficiency in the English language. For example, from institutions in Australia, Canada or the USA. IELTS: 7.0; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 72; TOEFL 100 overall.
