What will I learn?

The LLM Laws course offers a flexible approach to postgraduate study, where you can tailor the programme to suit your specific needs and career aspirations.

This LLM degree is suitable for individuals already working in the legal sector, as well as those looking to increase their knowledge in this area. Outside of term time you will have the opportunity to volunteer in the University鈥檚 Legal Advice Clinic. There you will have the chance to put the knowledge and skills you have gained on the course into practice. The Clinic will allow you to engage directly with the legal profession, and work with a number of reputable law firms.

Assessment

There are no examinations on this degree; all taught modules are assessed by course work. During the dissertation stage, which runs from late May until the end of September, you will complete an 18,000-word dissertation under the guidance of an academic supervisor.

Careers

The discipline of law and the knowledge and skills it offers present a number of career paths. These include legal practice and various positions in industry, local and central government, banking or finance.

Entry requirements

For international students

A minimum 2:2 Honours degree in any discipline, or a relevant professional qualification such as the Institute of Legal Executives and others that include some element of law. For applicants who do not possess formal qualifications, relevant professional experience may be taken into account via the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)/Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) mechanism (University regulations will apply). The course welcomes international applicants and requires an English level of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component or equivalent. TOEFL with a score of 72 overall and a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing.
