What will I learn?

Develop your skills, knowledge, and understanding of engineering design, medical imaging technologies and the clinical environment whilst learning how to apply, develop, and improve medical imaging and biotechnological products and systems. You will be trained in electrical, microwave, magnetic, acoustic, and optical techniques relevant to life sciences, along with analytical and imaging techniques relevant for biology, biomolecular, and clinical sciences.

To help you understand biological terminology, you will also receive broad practical training in biology and biomolecular sciences. Under the guidance of our academic staff, you will undertake a research project where you will have access to the best medical imaging and ultrasound equipment in Scotland, within our Clinical Imaging and Intervention Research Centre. During your project, you will have a chance to join leading researchers of CT, MRI, ultrasound, and optics in various clinical applications.

Recent project examples have looked at minimally-invasive high resolution imaging for neurosurgery and tissue mimicking materials for the detection of prostate cancer using shear wave elastography. Site visits will play a key role in developing your experience, with trips to the Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, and Tayside University Hospitals Trust, including the Clinical Research Centre, the departments of medicine, surgery, dentistry, ENT, vascular laboratory, and medical physics.
