Gain the advanced skills and specialist knowledge you need for a career as an analytical scientist.

You’ll develop a deep understanding across a broad range of essential developments in modern analytical chemistry. And get to grips with industry-standard instrumentation in our cutting-edge facilities to develop your lab-analysis skills.

Our university is the birthplace of one of the most important chemistry innovations in modern times – liquid crystals. You’ll be inspired by that same pioneering thinking and research-led teaching.

About this course

You’ll study industry-relevant analytical chemistry areas including process analysis, quality assurance, spectrometry and chromatography. As well as cutting-edge research topics such as lab-on-a-chip technology – one of our many specialisms.

Through hands-on learning, you’ll develop advanced technical and practical skills, taking part in interactive lectures, workshops, laboratory practicals, and computer lab sessions. You’ll learn in our state-of-the-art facilities such as our Mass Spectometry Suite. And build your analytical lab skills working with industry-standard instrumentation and software.

You’ll also develop invaluable professional knowledge including the application of quality assurance and health and safety. Along with key skills such as communication, problem solving, data handling and team working. And get the opportunity to progress your research skills by completing an advanced analytical chemistry research project in a topic of your choice.

We have strong industry links with companies such as AstraZeneca, GSK, Pfizer, Reckitt, and SLB. These close relationships inform our teaching, keeping it industry relevant and give you the chance to hear from guest speakers.

Entry requirements

For international students

Minimum 2.2 Bachelor Honours (or international equivalent) in chemistry or related subjects. This course requires academic IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each skill. TOEFL iBT - Overall 79-93 - At least - Reading 10, Listening 9, Speaking 17, Writing 19.
