What will I learn?

This master's in textile design will encourage you to be experimental and will give you the skills for a successful career in textile design. Taught by industry-experienced tutors who are sustainability specialists, and supported by our dedicated technicians; you鈥檒l learn techniques such as print, embroidery and Devore.

This MA textile design course is suitable if you鈥檙e a recent graduate or if you want to refocus your career. Whether your interests are in textiles for fashion, interior design or as a medium for art pieces, you鈥檒l develop your skills and apply them to a range of textile media.

Employability is key throughout this UK Textile Design master鈥檚 degree. You鈥檒l graduate with a portfolio that demonstrates your talents and accomplishments, as well as industry knowledge.

One of only a few specialist art schools in the Russell Group, you鈥檒l be inspired to create in our purpose built studios and workshops and learn with expert creative practitioners at Winchester School of Art (WSA), part our University of Southampton community and just one hour from London. You鈥檒l have industry exposure through guest lectures, work on live project briefs, and explore work internships where graduates have gone on to set up their own design labels or work at prestigious brands across the globe including Selfridges, Saatchi & Saatchi, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, ASOS, Nike and Apple.

We will assess your knowledge through: your portfolio and final project collection, evidence of the research underpinning your studio practice, reflective assignments that critically evaluate aspects of your own learning and your approach to problem solving and team working.

Entry requirements

For international students

You鈥檒l need a 2:2 degree or?an equivalent qualification, in a relevant subject. You鈥檒l also need a portfolio which will be the determining factor for entry. Your portfolio should include: evidence of the processes behind final work e.g. drawing and sketches; try to include observational drawings and Computer Aided Design (CAD) work, examples of processes and techniques e.g. dyeing, screen printing, digital printing, woven textiles or special finishing techniques images of your final work e.g. from exhibitions or photo-shoots. Your portfolio should not exceed ten megabytes in size and should include a variety of projects. English language: Band C, IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in all components.
