What will I learn?

Program Description:

The School of Fine & Performing Arts offers a program in Art History leading to the Bachelor of Arts Degree, with courses in art history. The BA in Art History is designed for students who wish to combine a liberal education with specific studies in art. The school also offers the minor in art history. Candidates for a degree in art history may prepare for graduate study and careers in teaching, museum and gallery curation, and arts management.

Art History Honors Program:

The honors program in Art History is designed to give students with outstanding academic ability and superior accomplishments in art history the opportunity to complete a program that encourages and recognizes their distinguished efforts. These students may earn an honors degree by completing the program鈥檚 major requirements, maintaining a high academic record, and successfully completing a senior honors project. Students are usually admitted to the program during their junior year. Interested students can obtain information on the honors program from the School for Humanities and Cultural Studies.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Be able to conduct scholarly research in the field and demonstrate writing and critical thinking skills.
  • Have an understanding of the evolution of art history.
  • Have a detailed understanding of at least five periods and styles within the history of art.
  • Have an acquaintance with the materials and procedures of at least two of the studio disciplines taught at Wright State.
  • Have integrated the study of original works of art into their scholarly practice.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have earned a certificate of completion from a secondary education school that would allow you to attend university in your home country. You should have studied mathematics and science subjects at the secondary level.

You must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and minimum score of English proficiency from one of these tests: TOEFL 61; IELTS: 5.5 with no sub score lower than 5.0; Pearson PTE: 51; Duolingo: 110; Cambridge test: Minimum scaled score of 162, with no subscore below 154, on the Cambridge English Qualifications; graduation from a United States high school.

Application dealine: April 30 for fall admission, October 10 for spring admission, February 28 for Summer admission.
