What will I learn?

At Butler, you will be able to learn the processes of developing and analyzing commodities through conceptualization, sales and management plans. Whether you deal with products that come from animals, vegetables or grains, you will learn both the science and business behind the development and marketing of a food product. Butler Community College offers you a dynamic opportunity to understand the jobs available in the food science business.

Once you earn your two-year degree, you are able to transfer to a bachelor鈥檚 degree program in food science, business or agriculture. Your background in business, food chemistry and agribusiness will supply you with the necessary knowledge to succeed in this in-demand field.

The Associate in Science in Food Science and Safety is designed for students planning to seek to transfer to a four-year college. Food science students will learn how chemistry, nutrition, biology and other sciences improve the safety and quality of foods, how new food products and flavors are developed, and how safer and more energy efficient food processes are designed.
