B.A. in Design

USA

What will I learn?

Lehigh鈥檚 undergraduate major in design engages students with new technologies, materials and media in developing the creative processes and critical thinking necessary for the modern designer. The major centers on studio with an emphasis on visual communication through digital media. Courses in art and design history and theory and in specific media techniques supplement the series of required studios.

Students can take a range of department courses in design or may choose a specific concentration in either graphic design or product design. The graphic design concentration introduces students to the tools and media related to print applications, web-based media, exhibition design, publishing and advertising. Product design concerns the creation of objects used in industrial applications, art objects, furniture, toys, exhibits and trade design, electronic products, household items and recreational equipment.

Career Opportunities

Lehigh鈥檚 design alumni work in interior design, film and television production, fashion design, editorial roles in printed media, sub-editing, product and packaging design, advertising, and landscape gardening.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants must be completing or have completed the equivalent of 12 years of education (primary and secondary) or the program of study that leaves them eligible for admission to university-level study in the educational system in which they are enrolled. For example, students who are completing or who have only completed O level or GCSE/IGCSE study are not eligible to apply and should do so when they are completing the final year of A level study, or the equivalent.

English Proficiency Requirement

Lehigh requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. Results from an English proficiency assessment must be submitted unless the applicant鈥檚 first language is English, or the last two full years (not including current year of study) of completed formal instruction have been in English. The TOEFL and IELTS are preferred, however TOEFL IBT Home Edition, and Duolingo English Test will be considered if those exams are not available to the student. Scores must be submitted directly from the testing/assessment agency and the most competitive candidates score above a 90 on the TOEFL, 7.0 on the IELTS or 110 on Duolingo. SAT, SAT Subject Test, and ACT results cannot be used to meet the English proficiency requirement.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
