B.A. in Education with a Concentration in Educational Studies

USA

What will I learn?

As an education major with a concentration in educational studies, you will enjoy a flexible program that allows you to tailor your coursework to your interests. These include careers that do not require state licensure such as day care centers, private schools, experiential education settings, and more.

Program Overview

Through liberal arts core courses, you will gain content knowledge in math, science, childrens literature, and history. Education courses focus on curriculum theory and design, special education, instructional technology, and key concepts and thinkers in the field.

This concentration does not lead to Massachusetts licensure, so MTEL preparation is not a part of the curriculum. As such, your field experience will culminate in a semester-long internship in a setting of your choosing, instead of student teaching. You will also complete internships during your freshman and sophomore years that allow you to build a resume and explore your interests. At Endicott, our director of field placements will work with you individually to secure quality field placements that will help you reach your academic and career goals.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the educational studies concentration program, students will:

  • Demonstrate the critical inquiry and analysis skills needed to engage constructively in intellectual discourse within the discipline.
  • Communicate effectively in written form following the academic conventions of the discipline.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the field of education including the areas of historic and current trends, assessment, special needs, psychology and technology.
  • Apply their learning to multiple field experiences in a variety of educational settings.
