What will I learn?

A recipe for food innovation.

How foods are made, kept safe, the way they are packaged, even the way they taste, feel or look, are all results of food science.

In this program, you will study biology, chemistry, nutrition, engineering and other sciences. You will learn to apply this knowledge in the laboratory to research and develop new or improved food and beverage products with novel flavors, textures and colors.

Much of your education will take place in the on-campus labs, where you could examine food-spoiling bacteria, analyze food borne pathogens, collect taste-sensory data, or learn how to process and package meat, dairy and cereal products.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have 2.5 on a 4.0 GPA scale is required from secondary school. They must meet criteria for admission to university level study in home country. They should also satisfy the following English language requirements:

  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) minimum score of 525 on the paper test or 70 on the Internet-based test
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) minimum score of 6.0
  • Pearson (PTE) Academic score of 48
  • ELS Language Centers, pass of Level 112
  • Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English), pass
  • Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English), pass
  • Cambridge International "O" Levels, pass
  • English proficiency demonstration is waived for any applicant who has a previous degree at an accredited U.S. institution
