What will I learn?

Program Learning Outcomes for the BA Degree with a Major in Music

Upon completing the BA degree with a major in Music, students will be able to:

Demonstrate an intermediate level of technical and musical competence in performance.
Possess rudimentary skills in music theory and an understanding of how those skills are related to music performance.
Acquire a fundamental understanding and appreciation of the various historical periods of music literature.

Students pursuing the BA degree with a major in Music must complete:

A minimum of 19 courses (43-51 credit hours, depending on course selection) to satisfy major requirements.
A minimum of 120 credit hours to satisfy degree requirements.
A minimum of 60 credit hours outside of major requirements.
A minimum of 14 courses (30 credit hours) taken at the 300-level or above.

Completion of a high school diploma (or an equivalent) prior to enrollment.

English Language Proficiency: Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate English proficiency in one of two ways:

1. Completing at least two years of full-time study in an English language curriculum prior to submitting an application.

2. Submitting one of the following official test scores.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)* (Internet-based test) minimum score of 100
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum score of 7
Duolingo minimum score of 130

To be considered official, all scores must be sent directly from the testing organization.

*TOEFL iBT Home Edition will be accepted and TOEFL ITP PLUS will not be accepted.

Application Deadline: January 4 (Regular Decision); November 1 (Early Decision I)
