What will I learn?

The metals program at the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art combines art theory, craft history, contemporary issues and personal influences with the many techniques used in the metals studio. Students refine their skills as they study and create utilitarian objects, nonfunctional objects, jewelry and metal sculpture.

Jewelry and Metalsmithing majors work with ferrous and nonferrous metals using these and many other tools:

full anodizing system
individual soldering stations, an assortment of raising and forming stakes and hammers
electroformer
centrifuge and vacuum for casting
enameling kilns
sandblaster
die former

Degrees and Preparation
The B.F.A. in Jewelry and Metalsmithing paves the way for a variety of creative careers in jewelry design,restoration, or sculpture — from individual artist to teacher, curator or gallery owner.

Entry requirements

For international students

New Freshman

You are a high school student or have completed high school or equivalent and have never enrolled in a college/university. SAT or ACT is not required for standard admission or admission scholarship consideration for all types of applicants. An official SAT or ACT score is required to be considered for direct admission into your intended major.

All undergraduate international applicants must provide proof of English proficiency by meeting the minimum score from one of the following acceptable tests. This requirement can be waived if you meet certain criteria.

SAT (Evidence-based reading & writing) test taken after March, 2016: 500

ACT English: 18

CAE (Cambridge English: Advanced): 169
