What will I learn?

Centrals BS in Earth Sciences prepares students for careers in the earth and space sciences, including private industry, government, and science education. The BSEd program, designed by our science education faculty, prepares students to teach earth science at the secondary education level.

Programs all have a common core of foundational introductory courses with five specialization options with varied upper-level elective courses selected to develop skills relevant to diverse career paths within the earth and space sciences. Central also offers minors in Astrobiology, Astronomy, Earth Science, and Geology.

Learning Outcomes

By the time of graduation, students will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

Scientific literacy: Students will be able to identify, analyze, and apply earth science concepts, principles, laws, and theories.

Ability to do science: Students will be able to interpret, analyze, and apply the Scientific Method and other related inquiry related skills, as well as quantitative methods, in the earth science lab.

Communications: Students will be able to use oral and written communication to accurately and effectively convey earth science concepts.

Technology literacy: Students will be able to select and accurately use appropriate tools, equipment, and technologies in the earth science lab.

Research: Students will be able to locate, interpret, analyze, and/or conduct and present earth science research.

Entry requirements

For international students

International students are selected for undergraduate admission to Central Connecticut State University based on a review of their academic success in their previous education.

English language proficiency requirement:

The three versions of the TOEFL that a prospective student may take are listed here with minimum acceptable scores:

Internet: minimum score of 79

Computer: minimum score of 213

Paper: minimum score of 550

The International English Language Testing System Exam (IELTS) is also accepted. A minimum band score of 6.5 is required for admissions consideration.

Duolingo English Test (DET): minimum score of 95

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
