What will I learn?

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSEG) offers a special 4+1 BS / MMSE program for highly qualified Undergraduate students from the University of Delaware. This program allows the student to earn a Bachelor鈥檚 degree from one of several partnering departments (including Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Civil & Environmental Engineering within the College of Engineering in addition to the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics within the College of Arts and Sciences) and the Master鈥檚 of Materials Science and Engineering (MMSE) degree in five years of full-time study at the University of Delaware.

Interested students should apply in the spring and fall semester of their junior year. To be considered for admission to this program, the following minimum criteria applies:

An Undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale at the end of their junior year.

A minimum of two reference letters from professors at the University of Delaware.

Applicants to the University must be graduates of accredited secondary schools or have equivalent credentials. Specifically, for post-secondary, degree-seeking programs, we consider for admission students who

  • have a high school diploma;
  • have the recognized equivalent of a high school diploma; or
  • are beyond the age of compulsory secondary school attendance in Delaware.
