The BFA in Interactive Design, Concentration in Game Design is a focused professional degree structured to facilitate the development of a capable, diverse, and competitive portfolio and in-demand creative skillsets. Capturing the excitement and opportunity that game design brings with the unique element of versatility in the graphic and interactive design marketplace, this program seeks to prepare students for professions that create or implement design focusing on game-based media. The curriculum is structured to meet the growing demand placed on the design industry for creators with advanced expertise in the visual, creative, and technological components of game design and related media.
As a concentration within the Interactive Design Program, this program includes foundational and advanced coursework in graphic and interactive design and targeted coursework focused on game design.
National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD) accredits this and all Maryville Design & Visual Art Programs.

Prepare students for professions that create or implement game design and interactive media, and provide a balanced, well-rounded approach to the theoretical, practical, and technical aspects of game, interactive, and graphic design
Prepare designers who are fluent in design process/methodology, including the ability to define, research, and generate multiple solutions to design problems
Encourage creative problem solving, critical thinking, and self-evaluation
Encourage communication skills through presentation, critique, and creative ideation
Provide a solid foundation in the history of art, games, and visual communication
Provide a solid foundation in and broad exposure to the tools and technology that create interactive and gaming applications, and encourage self-reliance and perpetual learning

To be considered for admission, applicants should have: A high school diploma with a minimum of 22 units of credits; A high school grade point average of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants who do not meet the criteria listed above will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be asked to submit a personal statement before an admission decision is made. The following are acceptable means of providing proof of English proficiency: TOEFL: 69 overall with no sub score lower than 15, or IELTS: 6.0 with no sub score lower than 5, or DET: 95, or PTE Academic: 47 or ELS Centre: Level 112 completed with a 2.5 grade or better. Application deadline: June 1st for the Fall semester and by November 1st for the Spring semester.
