Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Special Education at the University of Cincinnati provides direct and indirect services for individuals with disabilities. Some services provided by people in the field of special education include K-12 education, rehabilitation for occupational development and daily independence, community-based case management, disability advocacy, school and individualized consultation services and various other services related to individuals with disabilities and their families. Through education, community awareness and ecologically based service delivery, the focus of special education is to enhance and better the lives of all individuals with disabilities.
In our Special Education undergraduate program, we offer two subject concentrations:
Language Arts & Math
Language Arts & Science
In the Language Arts and Math concertation, our students will be able to communicate the principles of basic grammar, verb usage, essay writing, and comprehensive literacy instruction for students with significant cognitive disabilities. In addition, our students are able to teach the basic arithmetic through algebra by creating a curriculum based on the foundation of theory and best classroom practices.
Career
In general, graduates of the special education language arts and mathematics program work as intervention specialists (teachers) in various K-12 education settings, including schools, hospitals, vocational training facilities and other institutions providing educational services for individuals with disabilities. Some graduates of the special education program work as advocates and/or case managers for social agencies.

First-year applicants (sometimes referred to as freshman) are students who have completed high school and have not earned college course credit since graduating.
English test score requirements: ELS - 112 Graduation; IELTS - 6.0 Overall minimum of 5.5 on each section; PTE - 46; TOEFL - 66 iBT minimum of 15 on each section; Duolingo - 95; Cambridge - 169 minimum, Recommended exam: C1 Advanced.
