What will I learn?

The chemistry associate is a broad, versatile program designed to prepare for an easy entry to a four-year science program or for work as an entry-level lab technician or assistant. Designed as a 2+2 program, it follows the first two years of the chemistry bachelor's program offered at the Dayton Campus. You'll gain a strong foundation in chemistry while exploring your interests in the field. You can move seamlessly into the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the Dayton Campus or continue in the Bachelor of Science in Integrated Science Studies at the Lake Campus. Interested in another science program at the Dayton or Lake Campus? This program gives you a broad base to move easily into programs focused on biological sicences, earth and environmental sciences, biochemistry and molecular biology, or laboratory science.

Careers

This program prepares you to work as an entry-level technician or lab assistant in fields as varied as chemical research, medical laboratories, pharmaceuticals, the petroleum industry, plastics, and chemical manufacturing are all possibilities. Lab techs and assistants are in high demand in the region and require employees with the general skills taught in this program. This program also prepares you for further education in a bachelor's program and even a graduate program in the science or education fields. While opportunities exist with an associate degree, continuing your education with a four-year degree will increase your opportunities in the field.
