What will I learn?

The UW Ph.D. program in counselor education and supervision is targeted to students who already hold a master鈥檚 degree from a CACREP-accredited institution or equivalent and are seeking to become counselor educators and advanced practitioners.

Learning Outcome Areas Advanced Foundations

Ph.D. students with a 48-hour CACREP equivalent Master鈥檚 degree are required to complete 12 semester hours of courses beyond their Master鈥檚 preparation (in consultation with their adviser and committee). Ph.D. students with a 60-hour CACREP equivalent Master鈥檚 program can petition up to 12 hours of their Master鈥檚 coursework to fulfill this requirement.

Entry requirements

For international students

Hold a Master鈥檚 degree from an accredited institute of higher education.

Minimum 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale on the applicant鈥檚 most recent degree from an accredited institution, plus transcripts from all other schools attended.
GRE minimum score of Verbal:153, Quantitative:144.
TOEFL score of 540 (paper-based), 76 (internet exam) or IELTS score of 6.5 or above are required for international, non-native English speaking applicants. Until further notice, due to COVID-19 related postponements/cancellations of TOEFL/IELTS exams, we will be accepting Duolingo scores or 110 or higher as proof of English proficiency.
