Data Science with a Business Administration Minor is a unique and innovative program that integrates computer skills and mathematical theory with practical applications in economics, finance and general business. This multidisciplinary program, co-sponsored with Maryville鈥檚 John E. Simon School of Business, enhances the employment opportunities of mathematically oriented students in a wide variety of fields in the world of business and finance. Data Science as a Career
The data scientist combines business, statistics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to advance human capabilities across various professional fields (business, engineering, health, social sciences, computer science, etc.). Data scientists work in all kinds of roles from large corporations to lean startups. Data scientists might help policy makers develop better decisions, or they might work in finance or healthcare. Data scientists are technically proficient and often use a number of computer code languages to compile and synthesize data. A background in advanced statistics and intermediate to advanced levels of programming skill are required. Depending on the field, data scientists also have to be creative to interpret and visualize data expressions.
Accelerated Master of Science in Data Science
This unique option enables the Maryville undergraduate majoring in data science to complete the master鈥檚 program in just one additional year. In this option, four courses (12 credits) taken during the senior year as part of the undergraduate curriculum also count toward the master鈥檚 degree. The students complete 24 credits in the fifth year of study to complete the requirements of the master鈥檚 degree. Data Science major students with 75 undergraduate credits, at least 20 at Maryville University, and GPA 3.25 can apply for early access to the Data Science, M.S. program. No GRE or TOEFL is required for Maryville students entering the accelerated master鈥檚 program.

To be considered for admission, applicants should have: A high school diploma with a minimum of 22 units of credits; A high school grade point average of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants who do not meet the criteria listed above will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be asked to submit a personal statement before an admission decision is made. The following are acceptable means of providing proof of English proficiency: TOEFL: 69 overall with no sub score lower than 15, or IELTS: 6.0 with no sub score lower than 5, or DET: 95, or PTE Academic: 47 or ELS Centre: Level 112 completed with a 2.5 grade or better. Application deadline: June 1st for the Fall semester and by November 1st for the Spring semester.
