The Master of Science with a major in Data Science Program at Maryville University offers a 36 credit hour program (12 courses) leading to the Master of Science with a major in Data Science. The 12 required courses of the program are spread across four semesters, with three courses taken each semester. At least eight courses of data science (DSCI) at 500 level or above are required. The program allows for possible completion in three semesters.

The Accelerated Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or Actuarial Science provides a unique opportunity for Maryville University undergraduates majoring in Data Science to earn their master鈥檚 degree in just one additional year. Through this accelerated option, students can apply four courses (12 credits) taken during their senior year as part of their undergraduate curriculum towards their master鈥檚 degree requirements. In the fifth year of study, students will complete an additional 24 credits to fulfill the remaining requirements for the master鈥檚 degree.

The data scientist combines business, statistics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to advance human capabilities across various professional fields (business, engineering, health, social sciences, computer science, etc.). Data scientists work in all kinds of roles from large corporations to lean startups. Data scientists might help policy makers develop better decisions, or they might work in finance or healthcare. Data scientists are technically proficient and often use a number of computer code languages to compile and synthesize data. A background in advanced statistics and intermediate to advanced levels of programming skill are required. Depending on the field, data scientists also have to be creative to interpret and visualize data expressions.

To be eligible for admission consideration, applicants must meet the Graduate School鈥檚 minimum requirements:
A bachelor鈥檚 degree from a Regionally Accredited American College or University, or an equivalent degree from a foreign academic institution as determined by the Office of Admissions.
A minimum undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 or a master鈥檚 degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required, or the foreign equivalent as determined by the Office of Admissions.
