Graduate studies in apparel, merchandising, and design (AMD) extend knowledge and research beyond the basics to take a close look at industry-wide issues, such as:
Consumer behavior
Design — creative, technical, and functional
History and cultural studies
Merchandising, management, and entrepreneurship
Outsourcing and sustainability
Textile science
Students in this program are afforded many opportunities to present and publish their research Â鶹Դ´ world-renown faculty members.
Ph.D. Requirements
72 credits: Minimum number of credits required
12 credits minimum: Research methods and statistics (a minimum of one course must be in statistics)
20 or more credits: 500-600 level AMD courses (must include AMD 570 teaching practicum)
12 or more credits: Additional courses outside the department (must include one course in education theory)
15 credits minimum: Dissertation

Students must have earned a Master’s degree from an accredited institution to be accepted into our PhD program.

Application Deadlines: On-campus student applications for fall semester admission are due March 1 but by February 1 for the best chance at scholarships and assistantships; hybrid student applications for summer cohort admission are due March 15. On-campus and hybrid student applications for spring semester admission are due October 15.
