What will I learn?

Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary approach enabling the realization of successful systems by defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle. Systems engineers need to be problem definers, not just problem solvers, and be involved with a system through its life cycle, from development through production, deployment, training support, operation, and disposal.

If you are concerned with this 鈥渨hole system鈥 and can take an interdisciplinary and top down approach, this graduate program might be right for you.

As a systems engineering student you might study or research:

  • Model based engineering
  • Systems architecting
  • Modeling and simulation
  • Complex adaptive systems
  • Computational intelligence
  • Human system integration
  • Infrastructure systems

You must have completed the equivalent of at least three years of full-time work beyond a bachelor鈥檚 degree to be considered for this program. As a student in the program, you will conduct original research under the supervision of an advisor, and write and successfully defend a dissertation. You must normally spend at least two sequential semesters in full-time residence at the university.
