What will I learn?

Today’s elementary classrooms include a wide range of settings, challenges and, most importantly, opportunities — chances for you to foster excellence in all young students regardless of their backgrounds. In the University of Central Missouri’s College of Education, we empower you to develop into a caring, motivational educator as you earn your Elementary Education BSE for grades 1 through 6.

Elementary education online opportunities

To meet the needs of undergraduate students and their busy lives, we do offer some online courses. For instance, some courses outside your blocks are offered online during the summer. You may also be able to complete your senior block of student teaching in St. Louis or Springfield, which makes it possible for many of our students to move back home for a semester.

What you will study

Our instructors bring a wealth of knowledge to the program, as they help you prepare for your elementary teaching career. They have served in a variety of educational roles, including elementary teachers, instructional coaches and school administrators. Our instructors and professors will use their own experiences to help guide you through the Elementary Education degree program, and they will be with you every step of the way in your field placements. Explore some of the undergraduate courses you’ll take while earning your Bachelor of Science in Education for grades 1 through 6.

Curriculum Design and Assessment: Learn how to use formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate student learning and design units of instruction that meet individual learning needs of children.

Classroom Management and Interactions: Build classroom management knowledge and strategies that enhance and enrich teaching and learning.

School, Family and Community Connections: Complete community service hours and gain invaluable experience while connecting with families, students and community members.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have a 2.0 high school GPA or above to be admissible. If the applicant has taken undergraduate coursework the cumulative GPA of the undergraduate coursework must be a 2.0 or higher to be admissible.

Accepted English Proficiency Exams:

TOEFL exam score of 61 IBT

IELTS exam score of 5.5

Duolingo composite exam score of 95

UCM Proficiency Test of 61

Cambridge C1/B2 exam score of 162
