Graduate Certificate in English

USA

26

What will I learn?

The graduate certificate in English qualifies high school English teachers to meet the Higher Learning Commission’s requirements to teach dual-credit English courses.

Major Distinctives

The certificate program has three options:

1) A student may satisfy the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirement of 18 hours in the field by enrolling as a non-degree-seeking student and taking 18 hours of graduate classes.

2) A student may enroll in the PSU Graduate Certificate Program (which entails enrolling in the PSU master’s program, even though with no intention of earning the master’s degree), follow the prescribed course of study, and receive the Certificate.

3) A student may enroll in the PSU Graduate Certificate Program (which entails enrolling in the PSU master’s program), follow the prescribed course of study, receive the Certificate, and complete the remainder of the MA curriculum.

Career or Continuing Education Options

High school teachers may select this emphasis to update their teaching credentials and to qualify them to teach dual-credit courses at the high school level.
