What will I learn?

Maternal and Child Health has had a resurgence of interest among health care providers, policy makers, and others in recent years. Public Health focuses on the premise that prevention of disease is the best approach to controlling cost, increasing access to health care, and improving health status of populations, more and more individuals see the need for additional education as an avenue to accomplishing these goals. Completers of the certificate will be better able to contribute to the improvement in the health status of women and children at risk.

Offered through the Main Campus, it can be completed the Maternal and Child Health graduate certificate can be completed in one to four years. Affiliated with the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, students who successfully complete the certificate and are later admitted to the MPH program, may use all units toward the MPH if they choose either the Maternal and Child Health or the Health Behavior Health Promotion concentrations.

Domestic applicants choose between taking courses as a member of the Main or Arizona Online Campus. International students apply to the Global Online Experience Campus. Main Campus students have the choice of taking courses either in-person or online. Arizona Online students and Global Online Experience students enjoy the flexibility of completing the curriculum completely online and do not pay the non-resident tuition rate when they have non-Arizona resident status.

Admissions Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 2.75 GPA (GPA is based on the last 60 undergraduate units, or if the applicant has 12 or more graduate units, the GPA will be based on graduate units). Official transcripts are required for proof of previous degree and GPA.

Acceptable English Proficiency credentials:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 79 iBT (or 60 on the revised PBT with no section score lower than 15). Individual MyBest scores must also be dated within 2 years of the enrollment term to be considered valid.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - minimum composite score of 7, with no subject area below a 6
  • Pearson PTE Academic - minimum score of 60
  • Graduate English Language Endorsement from the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL)
  • CEPT Full Academic test - offered by our Center for English as a Second Language (CESL), minimum Total score of 110.
