Program Objectives
Materials Science and Engineering is the study of the mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of engineering materials, such as metals, ceramics, polymers, and biomaterials.
A materials engineer predicts and controls material properties through an understanding of atomic, molecular, crystalline, and microscopic structures of engineering materials. As an essential member of an engineering team, the materials engineer is responsible for synthesis and processing of advanced materials.
NJIT鈥檚 MS in Materials Science and Engineering curriculum develops skills in problem solving, engineering analysis and design.
Learning Outcomes
NJIT鈥檚 MS in Materials Science and Engineering is designed for students and professionals interested in the exciting and technologically important field of materials science and engineering. Materials engineers work in areas as diverse as automobile, aerospace, biomedical, or microelectronics manufacturing. Opportunities are available through these industries in the area of research, quality control, product development, design, synthesis, and processing operations. While students in the Materials Science and Engineering M.S. program learn a wide range of skills and knowledge, we specifically aim for our students to meet the learn the following:
