The Master of Science with an Elementary and Middle School Mathematics concentration is designed for current teachers with at least two years of successful teaching experience who want to improve their mathematics instruction; expand their knowledge of mathematics teaching and learning; and apply to the Virginia Department of Education for a K-8 Mathematics Specialist endorsement.
Program Focus
Our program is offered in a part-time, hybrid format (in-person and online class time) setting with flexible course scheduling and locations, making it perfect for individuals or school divisions seeking endorsement for a group of candidates. Students may enter the program under a non-degree seeking status and take up to six credits before applying to the program.

Applicants must hold a valid Virginia Collegiate Professional Teaching License or equivalent from another state and have at least two years teaching experience that includes some teaching of mathematics.
A student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0. If a student falls below a 3.0, he or she is placed on academic warning and have until the end of the term to bring the GPA to a 3.0 or higher.
A minimum TOEFL score of 570 (paper test) or 80 (internet test) or a minimum 6.5 on the IELTS for individuals whose first language is not English.
