What will I learn?

Our graduate program features advanced coursework coupled with cutting-edge research. The master鈥檚 degree can be earned with a thesis or a non-thesis option.

Research emphasis areas at the graduate level include the following:

  • Aqueous and environmental geochemistry and water resources
  • Economic geology and petrology
  • Geophysics, tectonics and geodynamics
  • Sedimentology, stratigraphy limnology, and paleoclimatology
  • Paylonology and micropaleontology
  • Petroleum systems

Two M.S. degree options are available: thesis and non-thesis. All Geology and Geophysics MS students are required to take the Professional Geosciences Skills course (GEOLOGY 5100) and either Advanced Physical Geology (GEOLOGY 5111) or Global Tectonics (GEOPHYS 5096).

Entry requirements

For international students

3.0 GPA in a related undergraduate degree for admission to the master鈥檚 program. GRE/GMAT SCORES: Quantitative Score of 156; Verbal + Quantitative Score of 300; Analytical Writing Score of 3.0; GMAT Total Score of 500. The following minimum scores are required for unconditional admission to Missouri S&T: TOEFL score of 79, IELTS score of 6.5, PTE score of 53.

Priority Application Deadlines: Fall Semester - April 30; Spring Semester - Nov. 15; Summer Semester - March 15.
