What will I learn?

Illinois Tech’s Master of Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering is a course-only, professionally oriented degree program aimed at broadening student potential, enhancing technical versatility, and in some instances providing the opportunity for changes in career path. Each student will have the opportunity to develop a program that reflects their professional goals and interests in consultation with an adviser from the Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering.

This program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to develop and improve materials that impact everyday life. Students will be prepared to study connections between materials’ structure and performance, including semiconductors, nanotechnology, and bio-materials. In addition, they will learn how newly engineered materials can be used to advance the future of technology.

Note: While some of this program can be completed online, some required courses involve on-campus examinations, preventing the program from being fully available online.
