What will I learn?

At the University of Central Missouri, our Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety includes an option to focus on Safety Management. This undergraduate program teaches you how to protect people and property by creating a safer working environment.

Earn an ABET-accredited degree and your GSP designation

The Graduate Safety Practitioner designation is integrated into the Safety Management bachelor’s degree program curriculum, so you’ll save you time – and money – by completing both at the same time. This professional credential also gives you an advantage in high-demand safety management jobs, with the potential to earn a higher graduate safety practitioner salary.

Occupational Safety - Safety Management degree options

UCM’s bachelor’s degrees in Occupational Safety are open to full- or part-time undergraduate students. Occupational Safety degree courses are offered on campus in Warrensburg, Missouri, but you may choose to take some courses in hybrid and online formats. Summer courses are all offered online.

What you will study

Build your skills and expand your knowledge in one of the country’s best Occupational Safety degrees in Safety Management — and the only ABET-accredited Safety program of its kind in Missouri. You’ll explore topics such as industrial hazard control, occupational risk management and environmental compliance. What you learn can be applied directly in safety management jobs.

Our BS in Occupational Safety Management degree also covers the evaluation of industries with higher rates of injuries or fatalities on the job and how to identify, reduce or eliminate hazards in these industries.

Core courses for the bachelor’s in Occupational Safety - Safety Management degree include:

Principles of Accident Causation and Prevention: Trace the development of the safety movement and gain a background useful for handling problems and procedures in school, industrial, transportation, civil defense and emergency safety programs.

Safety Leadership: Understand the problems of behavior, causes of accidents and how to apply the principles of psychology, philosophy and ethics in the development and management of safe behavior on and off the job.

Industrial Hazard Control: Learn the techniques for controlling mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards.

You can also customize your coursework with electives or a minor that reflect your interests and develop your skills and knowledge in a specialty area of safety management.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have a 2.0 high school GPA or above to be admissible. If the applicant has taken undergraduate coursework the cumulative GPA of the undergraduate coursework must be a 2.0 or higher to be admissible.

IELTS exam score of 5.5

Duolingo composite exam score of 95

UCM Proficiency Test of 61

Cambridge C1/B2 exam score of 162
