What will I learn?

Express your creativity in three dimensions in the University of Central Missouri鈥檚 Sculpture program. Robust training in the tools, skills, theory and history of your art form will prepare you for graduate-level study or to pursue a career as a professional sculptor. Receive a well-rounded education that includes art fundamentals, as well as familiarity with the tools and techniques for sculpting a variety of materials.

The Studio Art BFA in Sculpture program at UCM is an art school experience at public school rates, in keeping with our historic tradition of providing an accessible, high-quality education in the arts.

Broaden your scope in the Sculpture program studio

Our spacious, fully equipped sculpture lab enables you to experiment with a wide range of materials, including bronze, steel and wood. UCM faculty will train you to work safely with traditional and emerging media as you develop your unique visual language.

What you will study

As an undergraduate student in the University of Central Missouri鈥檚 Sculpture program, you鈥檒l learn foundational art techniques such as figure construction, along with art history and theory and general education courses for context and breadth.

As you progress through the Sculpture program at UCM, you鈥檒l spend increasing amounts of time in art studio classes, learning to express your vision with different media. By the time you reach your senior year, you鈥檒l be ready for your portfolio to be reviewed by professional artists and graduate school admissions.

Your Studio Art BFA with a Sculpture concentration includes many elective courses and ample studio time. Craft the learning experience that best suits your creative needs while still receiving a well-rounded undergraduate education with courses that include:

Art History: Choose from classes like Global Arts & Culture, History of Furniture and Interiors and Contemporary Art and Design.

Ceramics: Learn the fundamentals of multiple pottery-making techniques, including throwing on the wheel and kiln firing.

Sculpture II: This intermediate studio course introduces 3D techniques, materials and media, and provides training in how to solve artistic problems.

Figure Construction: Study the human body, both by learning about its structure and by drawing from life, to better understand movement and proportion.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have a 2.0 high school GPA or above to be admissible. If the applicant has taken undergraduate coursework the cumulative GPA of the undergraduate coursework must be a 2.0 or higher to be admissible.

IELTS exam score of 5.5

Duolingo composite exam score of 95

UCM Proficiency Test of 61

Cambridge C1/B2 exam score of 162
