Sunway University is part of the Sunway Education Group, fully owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF), Malaysia鈥檚 largest education-focused social enterprise. Established in 2004 and 1987 respectively, the campus is located within the integrated township of Sunway City and is well-connected to nearby cities and highly populated suburbs via an extensive network of roads, expressways and public transportation.

Student Wi-Fi accounts also provide access to facilities like scanning, photocopying and printing.

Sunway University鈥檚 library is ISO 9001:2015 certified and is among the largest of its kind in Malaysia for private educational institutions. It offers easy access to thousands of e-journals and large international databases facilitated by state-of-the-art technology.

Sunway University has a close educational partnership with Lancaster University, UK over the years. Lancaster University is one of the most outstanding British research university that is ranked in the top 10 in the UK (Complete University Guide 2018) and is named the 鈥淯niversity of the Year鈥� by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018. Many of Sunway University鈥檚 degree programmes are designed to match those of Lancaster University. Therefore, students taking many of our degree programmes to obtain a dual degree from Lancaster in addition to their Sunway University degree. This partnership gives an excellent opportunity for Malaysian and international students to earn a prestigious international qualification 麻豆原创 a local degree whilst studying in Southeast Asia.

Sunway University through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Cambridge to strengthen educational and research collaboration between Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

The American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) offered by the School of American Education (SAE) started in 1987 as a Twinning Programme and then transitioned into a Transfer Programme. Patterned after the American university system, the program was developed specifically to allow students to complete the first two years of their undergraduate degree at Sunway University and then transfer to the United States for degree completion.

Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO, Founder and Trustee of Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, and Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group, firmly believes that a good education opens doors to a better life and that the opportunity for education should be equal. It is with this in mind that the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, which replaced the Sunway Education Trust Fund set up in 1997, was established in March 2010.
As of 2023, the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has awarded more than RM670 million in Scholarships to thousands of deserving students in various fields of study. Through the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Sunway University has continuously contributed scholarships and education funds to deserving students through the .
International students can contact staff and counsellors in the Student LIFE Centre to know which scholarships they are eligible for, and for more information on how to apply for them.
There is also the Jeffrey Cheah Scholastic Award, awarded to students who achieve outstanding results in their individual academic programme at the end of their course.
