About Edge Hill University

Established in 1885, Edge Hill University is a campus-based public university located in Ormskirk, Lancashire which offers an impressive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and continued professional development courses and is fast becoming one of the UK’s most exciting modern universities.

The university opened its doors more than 130 years ago, as England’s first non-denominational teacher training college for women, and has since grown in size and expanded its educational offering to support a community of around 13,500 students. There are more than 130 undergraduate courses available, spanning a large variety of subject areas and delivered by three academic faculties the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Education,  and the Faculty of Health and Social Care.

The university’s 160-acre campus is a wonderfully landscaped site, populated by specialist academic facilities, with plenty of green space and recreational facilities to ensure an enriching and well-rounded student experience. It is located midway between Liverpool and Preston, and has excellent connections to major cities in the UK and is less than an hour’s train ride from the west coast.

The university has a superb track record for student satisfaction, and is currently undergoing significant investment in its campus infrastructure and facilities. It has the accolade of being named the Modern University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022, and continues to enhance its growing reputation for excellence.

What's new

It’s an exciting time to be a student at Edge Hill University. New campus developments for 2024 include additional ensuite accommodation facilities, outdoor spaces, and an entirely new student’s union, designed in collaboration with input from current students to become the new social heart of the campus.

This all comes as part of a GBP 35 million student life redevelopment plan, which aims to improve the extra-curricular facilities and services enjoyed by Edge Hill students on a daily basis.

Central to the redevelopment plan is the students’ union, which is a multi-use facility featuring flexible indoor spaces to be used for a variety of student activities. The building features outdoor social areas for recreation and temporary events, as well as dedicated rooms for the university’s many clubs and special interest societies. The building is at the heart of the campus and its community with interactive technologies and student-oriented programming, giving space to breathe and a fresh campus atmosphere which inspires students to achieve their goals.
