Founded in 1495, the University of Aberdeen is the fifth oldest university in the UK and is ranked in the top 15 universities in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2025 and Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025. There are five Nobel Prizes associated with the university across medicine, nutrition, chemistry, and physics, and ground-breaking research and innovation continue to this day. The university was awarded the prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize - the highest honour in UK further and higher education - for research and teaching in soil science in 2021.
The University of Aberdeen boasts four libraries, including the stunning Sir Duncan Rice library, which has been named as one of the most beautiful in the world (CEOWORLD Magazine, 2016). The University of Aberdeen’s state-of-the-art opened its doors in early 2022. The building has been designed around the provision of specialist teaching, training and learning for students across several disciplines such as chemistry, medical sciences, biological sciences and geosciences. Students learn in laboratory spaces equipped with digital screens on every workbench.
