What will I learn?

Physiology is a specialized life science degree that teaches you about animal physiology and anatomy and introduces you to intensive, hands-on laboratory experiences.

Our graduates are prepared to enter a variety of career fields, including the public and private sector, graduate school, or programs such as medical school or veterinary school. In addition, there are a number of student organizations at OSU designed to help you succeed, such as Advancing Women in Science or the American Medical Student Association.

Along with your hands-on laboratory work as a physiology major, you can also select among specialized upper-division courses like Embryology, Pharmacology, Environmental Physiology, Endocrinology and Behavioral Neuroendocrinology. The physiology degree primarily serves to prepare you for graduate school or a medically related professional school.

Courses to expect for this major include Physiology, Mammalian Physiology, Mammalian Physiology Lab, Vertebrate Morphology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Survey of Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry.

Entry requirements

For international students

High School GPA 3.0+ (based on a 4.0 scale) and English-language proficiency exam scores (one of the following): iBT TOEFL Internet-Based Score 61+; IELTS Academic Score 5.5+; PTE Academic Score 46+; iTEP Academic Score 3.5+, Duolingo English Test Score 95+.

Note: OSU will only accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) results from students beginning Fall 2024.

Application deadline: For applicants currently living in the U.S. - Fall: July 1, Spring: December 1 and Summer: May 1; For applicants not living in the U.S. - Fall: June 1, Spring: November 1 and Summer: March 1.
