What will I learn?

The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences offers programs leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Human Development and Family Sciences. All graduate programs offer a strong interdisciplinary background with an emphasis on risk, resiliency, diversity, and relationships in a changing society. All programs also provide background in family systems and the relationship of the family and its members to other systems across the life course.

At the Master’s and Ph.D. level in Human Development and Family Sciences, students focus on research and evaluation in applied human development and family studies. These degrees require the completion of a thesis.

Entry requirements

For international students

Baccalaureate graduates of regionally-accredited colleges are eligible to apply to the University of Delaware for admission to a graduate program. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is offered by the Educational Testing Service in test centers throughout the world. The University requires an official paper-based TOEFL score of at least 550 or at least 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) for an applicant to be considered for admission. The University expects a minimum score of 18 on the Internet-based Speaking Test. IELTS Australia. A band score of 6.5 is expected by the University.
