Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) is University of the Year 2023 (Times Higher Education) and is among the 20 percent of universities in the country that have been awarded a Gold rating in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework - a reflection of the outstanding education ARU offer to their students. The university hosts students from more than 130 countries around the globe and is known for its multicultural community. The university has five campuses, located in Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough, London and Writtle.

The university has impressive state-of-the-art facilities and has invested GBP 95 million over the past few years in re-development. The university is home to one of the only optometry schools in the country and boasts its own art gallery, The Ruskin Gallery. Students also have access to a state-of-the-art Science Centre, mock law courts, suites for computer gaming, a law clinic and 24/7 library services with online resources.

The university offers students top-quality career and employment advice via the employability service. Students can get assistance with everything from CV writing to interview skills. Services are available both in-person and online. 

Student support at Anglia Ruskin University is offered in several other areas as well. This includes services for students with disabilities, learning difficulties, medical or mental health conditions. Students can access a counselling service, get financial advice and for international students, and the dedicated international office is set up specifically for their needs. 

While studying at ARU, students can join one or more of the many social clubs or societies in their spare time. Through these groups, they can make new friends, learn a new skill and add something unique to their CV. Clubs and societies range from the Indian society to an alternative music society.

What's new

ARU Writtle

Since February 2024, ARU and Writtle University College have undergone a merger, together becoming ARU Writtle. Writtle is a long-established college with more than 125 years of history, and specialist expertise in subject areas of agriculture, horticulture, equine and canine studies, and animal management. ARU Writtle is located within a large site, including 150 hectares of open fields, farmland and landscaped gardens, and will continue to offer its full range of degree courses. The campus supports a comprehensive range of specialised teaching facilities and educational spaces, as well as several attractive and historic buildings including the ivy-covered Main Building and Hall.

ARU is very proud to be the  at the Times Higher Education 2023 awards.

This accolade celebrates ‘exceptional performance throughout the 2021-22 academic year’ and the university is #ARUProud that the success in delivering high-impact projects during this period has been recognised by the judges.

ARU among world's best for health and wellbeing

Anglia Ruskin University has been ranked 1st in the UK and 20th in the world for health and wellbeing in the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

ARU was also named as one of the UK’s top ten universities for education, social work and sports science courses in the Guardian League Table 2023. The university was also recognised for the value that it adds to students including student support and graduate outcomes. Final year students have reiterated this by rating ARU highly in the National Student Survey 2022.
