About Edge Hill University

Founded in 1885 in Liverpool as a specialist teacher training college for women, Edge Hill University today has around 14,000 students studying a wide range of programmes with nearly 4,000 postgraduate students. Students come to Edge Hill University from far and wide and from all kinds of backgrounds with the idea of broadening their access to opportunity and knowledge.

Edge Hill University is ranked in the top 4 universities in the North West by Complete University Guide 2024 and in the UK Top 35 by Guardian University Guide 2024. The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 classified more than half of Edge Hill’s research as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. At Edge Hill, students have learning experiences across fields as diverse as engineering, broadcasting and politics, and are coached as future leaders who can contribute to impactful concepts and technologies.

Edge Hill’s award-winning, 160-acre campus has had over GBP 350 million invested in it to create facilities of the highest standard for students to use, live in and enjoy. Edge Hill University’s campus is located in Ormskirk, in the heart of North West England.

More than 70 clubs and societies are active on campus at Edge Hill, giving students plenty of options for things to do outside of academics. The university’s active students’ union provides advice and representation to students, as well as organising a variety of activities and events.

Graduate outcomes

Edge Hill University delivers a superb academic and university experience, which leads to significant career enhancing opportunities. Beyond the lecture theatre, the university provides a variety of extra activities to help students stand out from the crowd in the ever-changing graduate careers market.

From global opportunities like studying abroad to learning a language, gaining an internship placement or taking a paid sandwich year between Year 2 and Year 3 of a degree, the university works hard to ensure that however its students plan to take their first steps after graduation, they’ll be ideally prepared for success.

The university also offers an award-winning on-site careers service, offering any support and guidance students need for their future. This can include interview training, CV writing, and access to career fairs and employment workshops. In addition, the careers service are available to support international students in finding part time and volunteer work during their studies.

This support is reflected in a particularly high , with 95.6 percent of students employed or in further study 15 months after graduating (Graduate Outcomes 2023).

What's new

It’s an exciting time to be a student at Edge Hill University. New campus developments for 2024 include additional ensuite accommodation facilities, outdoor spaces, and an entirely new student’s union, designed in collaboration with input from current students to become the new social heart of the campus.

This all comes as part of a GBP 35 million student life redevelopment plan, which aims to improve the extra-curricular facilities and services enjoyed by Edge Hill students on a daily basis.

Central to the redevelopment plan is the students’ union, which is a multi-use facility featuring flexible indoor spaces to be used for a variety of student activities. The building features outdoor social areas for recreation and temporary events, as well as dedicated rooms for the university’s many clubs and special interest societies. The building is at the heart of the campus and its community with interactive technologies and student-oriented programming, giving space to breathe and a fresh campus atmosphere which inspires students to achieve their goals.
