Founded in 1885 in Liverpool as a specialist teacher training college for women, Edge Hill University today has around 14,000 students studying a wide range of programmes with nearly 4,000 postgraduate students. Edge Hill University is ranked in the top 4 universities in the North West by Complete University Guide 2024 and in the UK Top 35 by Guardian University Guide 2024. The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 classified more than half of Edge Hill’s research as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. From global opportunities like studying abroad to learning a language, gaining an internship placement or taking a paid sandwich year between Year 2 and Year 3 of a degree, the university works hard to ensure that however its students plan to take their first steps after graduation, they’ll be ideally prepared for success.
The university also offers an award-winning on-site careers service, offering any support and guidance students need for their future. This can include interview training, CV writing, and access to career fairs and employment workshops. In addition, the careers service are available to support international students in finding part time and volunteer work during their studies.

New campus developments for 2024 include additional ensuite accommodation facilities, outdoor spaces, and an entirely new student’s union, designed in collaboration with input from current students to become the new social heart of the campus.
This all comes as part of a GBP 35 million student life redevelopment plan, which aims to improve the extra-curricular facilities and services enjoyed by Edge Hill students on a daily basis.
Central to the redevelopment plan is the students’ union, which is a multi-use facility featuring flexible indoor spaces to be used for a variety of student activities. The building features outdoor social areas for recreation and temporary events, as well as dedicated rooms for the university’s many clubs and special interest societies. The building is at the heart of the campus and its community with interactive technologies and student-oriented programming, giving space to breathe and a fresh campus atmosphere which inspires students to achieve their goals.

Edge Hill University is dedicated to the success of its students, and provides a generous raft of financial awards to ensure that every student has access to the resources they may need to complete their studies. There are scholarships to reward academic excellence or celebrate extra-curricular success, as well as grants and bursaries overcoming financial adversity, and providing help where needed.
All international students receive an automatic of at least GBP 3,000 towards their tuition fees. Additional discounts are available to students who have previously studied at Edge Hill University, undergraduate students achieving 70 percent and above in their first and second year study, and those who make 100 percent tuition fee deposits.
Edge Hill’s Student Opportunity Fund is designed to prevent students from missing out on great, career-enhancing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. It entitles undergraduate and PGCE students to apply for up to GBP 2,000 in support with any opportunity which is deemed valuable to the development of their career. This funding can be allocated to anything from travel costs, interview training, or a career-oriented project outside of study hours.
