Program description
Management is leading others to accomplish common goals in business. Today鈥檚 managers are people oriented, creative, adaptable and strong communicators. They have to know how to deal effectively with rapidly changing environments, work successfully with small and large teams, live and work by principles of ethics and social responsibility and be aware of responsibilities to sustainability.
As a major in general management, you'll study topics such as marketing, organizational behaviour, introductory accounting, managing responsibly in a global environment, human resources management, policy and strategy and probability and statistics. You will draw from fields such as history, English, political science, economics and sociology.
To enhance knowledge in a specific line of study many of our students choose a minor to go with their general management major. There are many minors to choose from including accounting, agriculture enterprise management, family and small business management, fintech and financial innovation, Indigenous business management, marketing, supply chain and operations management and more. Learn about more available minors.
Why take general management at the Dhillon School of Business?
Many choose the general management major because it provides a comprehensive understanding of business and managerial skills that can take them anywhere. You may also choose it because of the opportunity to design your own program, or start your own business. If you're a budding entrepreneur, a broad-based understanding of business will position you to succeed.
As a general management major you鈥檒l gain a broad background in all areas of management and have the maximum flexibility to choose courses that fit your personal and career interests. In addition to the required courses, the major includes six 3000- or 4000-level management electives.
Many of our students also enrol in co-operative education while at the Dhillon School of Business. Co-op allows you to get paid work experience before you graduate and can even help you land a job immediately after graduation.
